This one day training introduces the theory and practice of restorative approaches. It explores the underlying drivers of conflict and equips housing staff with an understanding of restorative practice and how to use this framework to effectively de escalate and navigate conflict.

Meet your trainer

Jonny Armstrong

Jonny has over 12 years of experience in restorative practice, conflict transformation, and social justice. As project manager at Northern Ireland Alternatives, he leads Striving Towards A Restorative Society (STARS) — a programme that trains and mentors local stakeholders to embed restorative approaches across non-justice settings, including schools, policing, housing, community groups, and faith-based organisations.

Throughout his career, Jonny has managed projects centred on social justice, dialogue, and community cohesion. He is deeply committed to creating spaces where people can build understanding and approach conflict with empathy and respect. His work has taken him from Northern Ireland to Dallas, Texas, where he has led transformative learning experiences for diverse groups of all ages and backgrounds.
Jonny holds an MSc in Social Policy and is currently completing a PhD focused on the design and implementation of restorative practice initiatives in Northern Irish schools, exploring their benefits, challenges, and resulting policy implications.
