With around 4.7 million leasehold properties in England and Wales and social landlords increasingly adding to their leasehold stock, getting leasehold management right is ever more important. This online training course will cover the leasehold legal framework, as well as exploring the day to day practicalities and challenges in managing leasehold properties.

What will I learn?

You will gain a full understanding of leasehold management and will be able to:

  • Understand the legal framework within which we manage leasehold homes and get the latest updates on upcoming leasehold reform
  • Identify how you will need to adapt your services and processes to comply with new legislation
  • Identify the lease terms you need to be aware of to ensure you can recover the cost of services, repairs and major works
  • Differentiate between what can and cannot be charged for in a service charge
  • Apply good practice in calculating service charges
  • Understand the Section 20 consultation process so that you can ensure the full cost of major works and long-term contracts can be recouped from leaseholders
  • Apply practical guidance on how to recover service charge debts
  • Understand the basics on when a lease extension is required and the legalities around extending a lease.

All those looking to expand their knowledge on leasehold management, this includes, housing officers, managers and directors. This training would also be beneficial to finance managers, asset managers and leasehold and home ownership managers.

Meet your trainer

Helen Muir

Helen specialises in leasehold and service charge management and has been working in this field for 28 years.

She held senior roles for two large housing groups before becoming an independent consultant and trainer, specialising in service charge and leasehold management, service charges and affordable home ownership.
