This online session covers all the essentials of social housing. What it actually is, why and how it is provided, its history and heritage, who does what and the key issues for the sector.

What will I learn?

From this training, you'll learn about:

  • How social housing came about and how it has developed over time
  • Who is involved in the sector, from those that live in the homes and communities, those who work or volunteer in the sector and the range of organisations involved
  • The range of functions that take place at a housing association or local authority housing service
  • The essentials of the law for housing
  • How it is regulated
  • What the issues are in the sector and where it may be going in the future.

Who should attend?

This course is for anyone interested in housing, in particular staff, involved residents and board members, but also anyone from organisations that work within or for the sector. They might be quite new to housing, but the course is also a useful update and refresher.

Benefits of attending

People on this course will gain a good working knowledge of the essentials of social housing. It will instil a confidence for the course participant on how to contribute through their role. Also, to appreciate the purpose of social housing for people who live in social housing homes and communities as well as wider society. There is specific learning on housing law and the housing system.

Meet your trainer

Michael Guest

Michael is a very well established chartered housing professional with a range of expertise, including housing management.

His housing experience includes operational and strategic roles, consultancy and training. He receives consistently positive feedback for his training, described as relaxed and conversational yet highly professional.

His qualifications include the Professional Qualification in Housing and a Masters Degree with Distinction in Housing Studies.
